Gary The H2o Guy:
Are you worried about leaner in your family'southward contrary osmosis drinking h2o organization? When was the last time you cleaned and disinfected information technology? Is there mold growing on the outside? That can't exist adept. Well, in this video, I'm going to show you how to clean and disinfect the contrary osmosis drinking h2o arrangement in your abode for your family, starting correct now.

Gary The H2o Guy:
Hullo, I'1000 Gary The Water Guy and I simplify water filtration to assist y'all conquer crappy h2o for your family. Now, whether yous're a practise it yourself homeowner, a plumber or a water treatment professional person, you need to know how to make clean and disinfect a contrary osmosis drinking water system.

Gary The Water Guy:
Yeah, I know if you're on a chlorinated water supply, or if you take an ultraviolet disinfection system on your whole house, before your reverse osmosis system, the chances of you having bacteria in that opposite osmosis system are very low. Just if you lot haven't cleaned or disinfected information technology for several years or since information technology was installed, it'due south definitely due. Then a couple things to keep in mind earlier you get started, you demand a full replacement set of filters and a replacement membrane for your contrary osmosis system, because the old ones you can non reuse once y'all've disinfected the organisation.

Gary The Water Guy:
Secondly, you need to take some kind of a disinfectant. Then Sani-Organisation works extremely well. Information technology's designed really for this purpose, or you can utilise a few tablespoons of chlorine, bleach basically. And it's very advisable to know how a reverse osmosis arrangement actually works. So if y'all're not sure, I definitely advise yous bank check out my video. I'll put a link in the description down below and click on it, check it out, and you'll definitely appreciate that going frontwards.

Gary The H2o Guy:
So in that location'southward a few precautions you need to take to make certain y'all're not introducing bacteria into the reverse osmosis system during the filter change or when you're changing the membrane. So brand certain you wash your hands with soap and water before the procedure. Also, you can wear gloves to go on everything nice and make clean. I as well suggest putting downwards a prissy clean textile then that you're working on that while you're doing the whole process. If there's any mold on the exterior of the reverse osmosis system, y'all definitely have to become rid of that. And thirdly, make sure you lot go out the filters wrapped upwards until you actually demand them and earlier you're actually putting them into the organization.

Gary The Water Guy:
During the disinfection process, they'll also be several occasions where yous're going to have to undo the tubing from the quick connect fittings. To do that, you just push in on the finish, hold the neckband back and pull it out and then to reconnect information technology, you push in until you feel some resistance and then button a fiddling bit harder and brand sure that it'south locked in place. If you lot'd like some more information most that, I accept a great YouTube video and I'll put a link in the description down below and yous can cheque it out for some more information.

Gary The Water Guy:
All right, and so let's get started. The first thing you're going to do is shut off the water to the whole arrangement. You'll have a brawl valve shutoff that looks something like this and and so then you merely turn information technology 90 degrees. That shuts off the menstruum. Whatever direction the handle is in is what direction the water'south flowing, so that shuts it off. And and so what y'all're going to do is yous're going to open up your faucet and you're going to open it upward and let all the water run out. You lot're going to exist draining the tank totally, so it'due south going to take a little while for it to run. So permit it menses right til it slows right downwardly to nil. At beginning, it's going to catamenia very quickly, but equally time goes by, it's going to go slower and slower and slower. That might easily take x minutes.

Gary The Water Guy:
And so now's the fourth dimension that if there'southward whatsoever mold on the outside of your reverse osmosis system, to deal with that. What I suggest to you use a spray cleaner, any kind of spray cleaner. Spray the whole unit. Let it sit for several minutes so it has time to seep in and then utilize a toothbrush or something similar that to get into all the nooks and crannies to make clean information technology all out, rinse it all off, make sure that it's squeamish and clean on the outside.

Gary The Water Guy:
Then y'all'll use your filter housing branch to remove the filter housing. Then you lot're going to get-go at your sediment filter. Your sediment filter will typically exist stage i. Then you utilize the wrench and unscrew the filter housing. Yous're going to open it up. Yous're going to discard the filter that's inside. Yous're going to dump all the water out, but you're going to leave the filter housing off. And and so y'all're going to become on to phase ii and to stage 3. Yous're going to remove all of the filters, only stage 2 and phase 3, once more, you lot're going to dump out the filters, you're going to dump out the water, but you're going to put the filter housing back on and snug information technology up so it doesn't leak.

Gary The Water Guy:
Next you're going to have to disconnect the tubing on the end of the membrane and so you can open the membrane housing to get the membrane out. Then again, it'southward one of these quick connect fittings. What you're going to practise is you lot're going to force the tubing in, hold the neckband dorsum and pull the tubing out straight and so nosotros'll lift this upward and remove the mail service filter for a 2d and and then you lot unscrew the cap. At present I've loosened this upwards alee of time, so you may very well accept to use tools to unscrew the cap. Then you're going to pull out the membrane.

Gary The Water Guy:
Now the membrane does not come up out very easily, and so you probably want to use needle nose pliers, and you lot only twist it a little bit, then pull and the membrane comes out. So you're going to set the membrane aside because you don't want the membrane in when y'all're doing the disinfection process. Remember I said, you're going to be replacing all these things afterwards. So and then you're going to shut this support, reconnect the tubing. We'll put this filter back on top here, like and so. Then we're going to reconnect the tubing to the membrane right in that location. And again, slide information technology and brand sure it locks into place. At present, the filter on the summit, the post carbon, you would just go out in place. I mean, we're going to ruin it during this disinfection process and we're going replace it a little bit later.

Gary The Water Guy:
At this stage, you lot're going to install a shutoff valve on the bleed line and the reason is considering you want to be able to shut off the sanitizer and trap information technology inside the system. You just cut the line and install this fitting, leave it open for now. Then the next stage is, you've got the sediment filter housing that'southward removed from the manifold, and you're going to pour the Sani-System into the sediment filter housing. If yous chose not to use Sani-Organisation, for whatsoever reason, yous can utilize three tablespoons of chlorine or bleach. Then you thread the housing dorsum onto the manifold.

Gary The Water Guy:
Then you're going to become to your shut off, the main supply shut off to your reverse osmosis system, and you're going to open that up and water's going to commencement flowing through the system and it's going to option up that disinfectant and it'southward going to run throughout the whole system. Now, when yous offset to get some water flowing to the drain, remember we've put in this close-off to the drain, so you're going to have some water and disinfect and start flowing out. Once yous start seeing that, you just close this then you trap it within. Then it'south going to go along to fill this whole organisation. I mean, obviously y'all're going to be checking for leaks, make sure there aren't any and brand sure your tank valve is broad open up, similar this one here, in the open position so that the disinfectant also fills in the tank.

Gary The Water Guy:
You're going to fill up the whole system. You're going to brand sure that the faucet at the kitchen sink is closed then yous don't have whatever water flowing out of that. Then you're going to make full the whole system. Once it'south full, then you let information technology sit for five minutes and it'southward going to disinfect the whole system. If your reverse osmosis system is also continued up to your fridge, and then make sure that line is on and you've got some disinfectant flowing through that likewise, to make sure everything is disinfected. Afterward the 5 infinitesimal wait time, then you lot tin flush it out. What you need to do at that bespeak is you need to open up up the faucet, let the h2o menses, and bleed everything downwards. And so while information technology's draining down, at some bespeak you may desire to shut off the supply, so that you make sure that you fully empty the reverse osmosis tank. Once it'due south fully empty, then you can open up this up again.

Gary The Water Guy:
In one case you've washed out all of the disinfectant, of form, y'all've opened upward this drain line, you've washed everything out, then what you would do is you would place the filters. Now, if you lot're not sure how to practise the filter replacement, I'll put a link to a video on that in the description down beneath, so you can bank check that out.

Gary The H2o Guy:
Once the new filters accept been installed, and then yous're going to want to make full the whole system and you're going to want to affluent it. Y'all need to make full the whole system, which is going to take almost two to 3 hours to fill, and then you're going to open the faucet, flush it till the water flows down to a trickle. Let it fill up again. Once again, two to 3 hours. Open the faucet, affluent it, let it fill once again and flush it. You lot're going to want to flush the three times because the contrary osmosis membrane has a preservative in it and you want to brand sure you flush all of that out.
